Little Sim Big Ideas Port MerionVillage debuts another major annual event. The ESCAPE 2009 a Relay for Life benefit concert that boasts 7 hours of live music begins Saturday May 23rd at 12pm.
The event will be filmed for worldwide web casting courtesy of Khat Braveheart. Both national and international press is invited to cover the event. “We fully support live music” says, Port Merion Co-owner Sly Pienaar, a performing artist in the UK, “music is a huge part of my life and I love hearing live music here in Second Life, you get wide range of genres from around the world and it gives everyone and anyone a chance to perform. We are happy to just be a part of it and for a charitable cause.” “Live music is an important part of Second Life Culture as is Relay for Life” says Port Merion Events Director and sim Co-owner FlutterGirl Looming, who put together Saturday’s line up, “I am excited about bringing them together here in Port Merion. We have never done anything like this so far and it has been a great, the artists are excited, the Village is buzzing, it’s going to be a great show.” The Village is a replica of the RL Village of Portmeirion, an Italianate resort village located in Wales and nestled along the coast. Built on a foundry and boatyard by Clough Williams-Ellis, Portmeirion is a testament to Mediterranean architecture demonstrating that development of a naturally beautiful site need not result in its defilement. Williams-Ellis practiced what he preached as a conservationist and campaigner for the protection of the environment. In popular culture Portmeirion was home to Patrick McGoohan's 1960's classic series The Prisoner. The Village starred as an unassuming and inescapable prison for spies and people who knew too much. While one can never physically escape The Village perhaps Saturday we can run away with the music. Kalique Pichot, Port Merion's director of traffic and sim co-owner feels the event is a step in the right direction for the sim. “We want to do more and more events like this, we started with the Wedding Expo which was a great success and now we are truly excited about The Escape concert on Saturday. We created Port Merion as a means to give back to the SL community and events like this give us the opportunity... we are such a team but I have to stop and say that this show would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of FlutterGirl Looming who has spearheaded the entire event." When asked about their involvement with Relay for Life, Ms. Pichot said "I can’t tell you how important fundraising for cancer research is to us. Cancer has touched the lives of my partners and I, and some of us are active supporters of the ACS Relay for Life in-world and out. We were completely thrilled to host The Village Players Relay team of which I am honoured to be co-captain of along with Garthrim Ranger. This is one of our biggest events and we are anticipating a great turn out. We hope you will come and join us." Show Times and Line Up:
